Gate Automation Solutions

Rapid Automatic Access offers an extensive range of gate automation solutions. Selecting the correct automatic gate motor and controls to make your life easier, more efficient, or secure can be a little daunting. Our gate automation experts will offer the most reliable, safe, and easy gate automation system to suit your situation and needs.

Some of the factors to consider when selecting the most suitable system are:

  • How often the gate will operate – this is commonly referred to the duty cycle
  • Size of the gate
  • Weight of the gate
  • Condition of the gate hardware hinges, roller, and wheels
  • Speed of the gate and the gate operation system
  • Traffic flow
  • Number of users
  • Speed at which you want drivers or pedestrians to enter the facility

Access solutions for automatic operation of the gate will vary depending on the speed with which you want authorised entrants to enter the property. Choices include RFID, remote control, sensors, keypads, intercoms, and mobile apps. The volume of traffic and number of operators will also determine the best system to suit your situation. Pedestrian gates and boom gates also have the option of operating by ticket or coin collection.

Your gate automation system will be fully integrated into your overall vehicle or pedestrian access plan. The complete security and control of visitors to your property are of paramount consideration in the choice of your gate automation system. Safety features to protect pedestrian and vehicles can vary from site to site and depend on what type of traffic will flow through the gate. Common Safety protection devices that can be added to gate automation systems are safety photo beams, light curtains, traffic lights, in-ground induction loops, and flashing lights.

Linear Swing Gate Motors

In what environments are Linear Swing Gates best suited to?

Linear Swing Gates are usually used on residential buildings. Typically, they are small-medium sized gates no longer than 3.5m-4m in length. The motors are small, quiet to run and aesthetically pleasing. For your convenience, they have a battery back up so if the power happens to go out, the gate can continue to function as normal.

Motor Duty

These gate motors are light to medium duty, hence the typical use for residential dwellings. Heavy duty option is available, more information on that below.

Installation Method

The great thing about linear swing gates, is that they are easy to install retrofit. So, if you have an existing building or property, this will usually be your best option.

Gate Hardware

While we have a wide range of gate hardware available, the best thing about linear swing gates is how user-friendly they are. Safety sensors are included, to prevent gates from closing on pedestrians passing through. If it senses an obstruction, the gate will automatically reverse in the opposite direction for safety. We do recommend magnetic locks, to prevent forcing of the gate as well as to protect the motor.

Articulated Swing Gates

In what environments are Articulated Swing Gates best suited to?

We usually installed these gates where there are big piers of columns to attach it to. We have 3 different types: light, medium and heavy duty. We work off custom orders for these 3 types.

Motor Duty

Available in light, medium or heavy duty (more on heavy duty below), these gates are versatile for a range of applications. All are low maintenance, which is a bonus.

Installation Method

Normally installed on large piers or fixed to brickwork or steel – these gates have an elbow arm to connect to the gate. From the exterior, if you can see through the gate, then the motor is usually well-hidden, making it more visually pleasing. The light and medium duty motors are easy to install retrofit too.

Gate Hardware

Safety sensors are also standard on these gates, to prevent them from closing on pedestrians passing by. Very user-friendly, these gates will automatically reverse in the opposite direction if they sense an obstruction. We also recommend magnetic locks for these, to prevent any forcing of the gate and to make sure the motor is protected.

In-Ground Swing Gates

In what environments are In-Ground Swing Gates best suited to?

These are the most visually pleasing of the bunch, although they are unable to be retrofit (except in some exceptional cases). Generally, we install these at residential properties because they do look the best. They are also available for commercial sites too.

Motor Duty

Available in light, medium or heavy duty (more on heavy duty below), these gates are versatile for a range of applications. All are low maintenance, which is a bonus.

Installation Method

Most suitable for brand new installs, where there is no concrete, bitumen or pavement yet.

Gate Hardware

Safety sensors are included, to prevent gates from closing on pedestrians passing through. If it senses an obstruction, the gate will automatically reverse in the opposite direction for safety.

Sliding Gates

In what environments are Sliding Gates best suited to?

Sliding gates are all able to be retrofit, if there is a concrete mount available. These are best suited to schools, and usually the only type of gate that NSW Department of Education will approve.

Motor Duty

These are also available in light, medium and heavy duty. We have different for the 3 types of motors.

Installation Method

A concrete mount is needed to install these gates, and they are all available to be retrofit. The light option is rack only, which normally results in it being more cost-effective too.

Heavy Duty Swing Gates

In what environments are Heavy Duty Swing Gates best suited to?

This is the heavy-duty version of the linear swing gate mentioned above. In heavy duty applications, it must be articulated. These gates are primarily used for industrial settings. They can be retrofit, although there does need to be a suitable amount of space for the motors to mount to.

Motor Duty

This option is heavy duty, and the motor can be bigger and bulkier than others.

Installation Method

These need to be welded on to steel posts or fixed on to high grade concrete.

Gate Hardware

Safety sensors are included, to prevent gates from closing on pedestrians passing through. If it senses an obstruction, the gate will automatically reverse in the opposite direction for safety

Heavy Duty Sliding Gates

In what environments are Heavy Duty Sliding Gates best suited to?

These gates can be used everywhere if there is a suitable footing, so they are suitable for residential, commercial and industrial use.

Motor Duty

Medium and heavy duty are the appropriate options for this gate type.

Installation Method

They can be rack or chain, although we recommend chain for its superior reliability.

Safety Devices

We have a range of safety devices available for automatic gates to protect vehicles and pedestrians:

  • P Beams: infrared sensors that will detect pedestrians and vehicles
  • Induction loop: will only detect metallic objects i.e. vehicles only
  • Light curtains: infrared sensors that will detect pedestrians and vehicles
  • Bump stop

All industrial motors (heavy duty) will need these safety devices, as they will keep moving even if they feel a bump in the road.
